July and August 2013 Forecast Results

Here are the results of some forecasts made in June of this year. The first forecast was for August 7-12, 2013. The forecast expected some kind of tropical moisture or tropical system to affect southern Mexico. The second part of the forecast expected a tropical system to travel the length of the U.S. East Coast on its way toward the Northeast and New England.

Results

No tropical system was reported over southern Mexico at this time. As for the U.S. East Coast there was not a tropical system but heavy rain did affect the area. On August 9th, 3.79 inches of rain fell in Hartford, CT, and 2.53 inches fell in Georgetown, DE.

The following Accuweather map shows the area to be affected by flooding downpours and damaging winds on August 13th, just a day after the forecast period ended.

Forecast

Another forecast issued in June was for the period between August 15-16, 2013. This forecast expected a clashing of air masses over the West Coast states due to a low pressure area or front, as well as a possible tropical system in the Eastern Pacific.

Results

No tropical system developed in the Eastern Pacific at this time. The Weather Channel map below for August 15th does show a front affecting the West Coast states. There was no major clashing of air masses. The region experienced hot temperatures and isolated thunderstorms.
