July 26, 2013 Forecast Results

Over five months ago, in February of this year, I issued some long-range weather forecasts regarding the drought situation in the U.S. Plains. The article entitled "Timing the Relief for Drought-Stricken U.S. Plains" contained a forecast for the time in and around July 26th. I've been posting the results of these forecast as they happen.

Forecast
The original forecast was based on the position of the planet Neptune in the key chart for the summer season. Neptune correlates with increased moisture and downfall. Here is the astro-locality map for the summer season showing Neptune's position over the Mississippi Valley. Since Neptune is close to the Plains, I concluded that the opposition of Venus to Neptune on July 26th would also bring rain to the Plains.
Summer 2013

Now, compare the Neptune line in the above map to the Weather Channel radar map of July 26th.

26 Current Radar

Notice that the main body of rain over the Plains and Mississippi Valley is oriented in the same direction as the Neptune line in the astro-locality map.

The next map, from the National Weather Service, shows areas that were subjected to flash flood watches. These states included Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas -- states that are battling drought.

26 Warnings

Accuweather reported on the 25th that damaging thunderstorms and flash flooding would affect the Great Plains and parts of the Upper Midwest affecting 10 million people and covering an area of about 250,000 square miles.

California Water Shortage Forecast Results

Here are the results of the March 12, 2013 post California Water Shortage Spring 2013 Forecast. My basic conclusion was that the spring season looked predominantly dry and the details of the forecast have basically borne themselves out.

At the time of the post the U.S. Drought Monitor for California looked like this: ca_dm

The light yellow shows abnormally dry areas, and the darker yellow shows severe drought. Next, is the latest Drought Monitor for California.
ca_dm

Pretty much the whole state is now in a severe drought.

Forecasts and Results

Here are the details of the forecasts and their results. The dates I used are understood to include a before and after period of a day or so on either side.

March 22 Forecast
Around this date, a stormy and windy system is indicated over southern California that may bring precipitation.
Results
The Weather Channel reported a winter storm producing rain and high mountain snow from the Northwest to northern and central California.

March 31 Forecast
In and around this date, another storm system is indicated over southern California.

Results
On the 30th and 31st, rain showers and mountain snows increased for northern and central California, and Great Basin.

April 13-25 Forecast
During this period, Mars transits over the state of California in the Full Moon chart. This usually coincides with a dry period.

Results
The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletins for this period said water-supply prospects for California remained bleak. The state experienced warm and dry weather throughout this period.

April 17 Forecast
Specifically around this date, the Sun conjoins Mars and is localized over California in the Full Moon chart. This corresponds to warmer temperatures and dry conditions. At times, storms can ensue after the heat.

Results
Posts from the National Weather Service for this date spoke of a warming trend, high pressure, and Santa Ana winds.

April 22 Forecast
At this time one of the above mentioned aspects to Saturn takes places. We should see a front or low pressure area form off the U.S. West Coast, which may bring precipitation inland.

Results
The National Weather Service reported an upper level disturbance brought a chance of showers.

April 27 Forecast
At this time Mars triggers the Full Moon chart increasing heat and dryness. Sometimes this results in storms being generated after the heat.
Results
On the 28th, Accuweather headlines read: Record-Warmth in the Desert Southwest into Early Next Week.

April 28 Forecast
Around this time, the Sun will oppose Saturn off the U.S. West Coast bringing a front or low pressure system there. The opposition should also affect areas of southeastern California.

Results
The National Weather Service explained that because of the interaction of an upper level trough and an upper level high pressure system a late season offshore wind event would ensue over southwest California.

May 1 Forecast
A vigorous low pressure area or front forms around now and moves inland bringing stormy conditions.
Results
On May 2nd, Accuweather reported unusually strong Santa Ana winds and dryness. (The wind is what I expected on the 3rd...but that's close enough)

May 3 Forecast
Warm and dry conditions with the possibility of increased wind velocities are indicated in and around this date.

Results
An upper level low off the California coast brought a few showers and thunderstorms.

May 5-20 Forecast
In another key chart, Mars will transit across California now bringing warm and dry conditions.

Results
The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletins for this period said there were some isolated showers in California between the 5th and 11th. Hot, and mostly dry weather prevailed in California between the 12th and 18th.

May 7-8 Forecast
Mercury's aspect to Mars will bring and warm and dry atmosphere with increased wind velocities around this time.
Results
An upper-level disturbance triggered scattered showers and thunderstorms some of which produced gusty winds and heavy downpours.

May 11 Forecast
The Sun's conjunction to Mercury is known to bring high pressure, which we should expect around this date.
Results
The Weather Channel reported very warm conditions in California.

May 12-31 Forecast
The majority of aspects at this time indicate fair weather with not much chance of rain.

Results
Most of this was covered in the May 5-20 section above. The period from the 20th through the 31st brought worsening drought across the Southwest, warm and dry weather with hot, and breezy conditions.

June 3 Forecast
Due to an aspect involving Saturn, somewhat cooler weather and higher humidity may be expected but this is not necessarily a rainmaker.
Results
According to the Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin, a weak upper-level low brought modest cooling to southern California.

June 7-8 Forecast
Mercury makes some important aspects to Uranus and Pluto. This may bring an anomalous weather pattern to the Pacific Northwest and California. It may mean stormy or windy conditions or perhaps extremes of cold before and after these dates.
Results
This forecast was added to and I covered the results here.

June 12 Forecast
Around this time a cold front lowers temperatures and perhaps triggers a little precipitation.
Results
The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin reported an upper-level low over southern California resulted in mild temperatures over higher terrain.

June 13-20 Forecast
The rest of the season appears to be mostly dry.

Results
The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin stated that between June 16-22, little or no rain fell across California. Then from the 23rd to the 29th, early week showers fell in northern California and then turned hot and dry for the latter part of the week.

Hurricane Erick and Other Fulfilled Forecasts

Hurricane Erick fulfilled the long-range forecast for July 4-11, 2013 posted during the third week of June. The area in and around Acapulco, Mexico (99 west longitude and 16 north latitude) was identified as likely to spawn a tropical system at that time.

On July 4th, the National Hurricane Center announced that a new tropical depression, dubbed TD Five-E, formed south-southeast of Acapulco, Mexico, at 98 west longitude and 13 north latitude--the exact area mentioned in the long-range weather forecast. Tropical Depression Five-E later developed into Hurricane Erick. Below is the National Hurricane Center map for July 6th.
06 Hurricane Erick

The same forecast mentioned two other areas that might be affected by tropical systems: Tampico, Mexico, which lies along the Gulf of Mexico, and eastern Texas. The National Hurricane Center's Tropical Weather Outlook of July 6th informed of a surface trough of low pressure developing in the western and central Gulf that was expected to move slowly northward toward the Texas and Louisiana coasts. A day earlier, the Weather Channel reported that this tropical wave was bringing "a ton of rain to the northern Gulf Coast. Then on the 6th, "rainfall of 1 to 3 inches or more" was possible from the upper Texas Gulf Coast to the Florida Panhandle. At this time the low pressure system was named Invest 94-L, which sat roughly 250 miles south of Brownsville, Texas. This is exactly where Tampico, Mexico lies.

The last portion of the forecast defined the New England area as a candidate for a severe weather pattern or a tropical system. A severe weather pattern did develop over the area. On the 8th, Accuweather was warning of damaging storms from Maryland to Massachusetts. The Accuweather map below shows the flooding potential expected.
07 Virginia to New England

The National Weather Service began to issue warnings for heavy rain in Maine, locally heavy downpours and flash flooding for Massachusetts, Vermont, northern New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut over the next few days.

Reasons for Unbelief

Aldous Huxley’s self-admitted reason for his unbelief. He says he had “motives” for not wanting to believe in God and so “assumed” he didn’t exist and “was able without any difficulty to find satisfying reasons for this assumption.” He confessed:

Most ignorance is vincible ignorance. We don’t know because we don’t want to know. It is our will that decides how and upon what subjects we shall use our intelligence. Those who detect no meaning in the world generally do so because, for one reason or another, it suits their books that the world should be meaningless.

More recently, New York University Professor Thomas Nagel has said something similar: “I want atheism to be true and am made uneasy by the fact that some of the most intelligent and well-informed people I know are religious believers.” He continues: “It isn’t just that I don’t believe in God and, naturally, hope that I’m right in my belief. It’s that I hope there is no God! I don’t want there to be a God; I don’t want a universe like that.”

June and July 2013 Forecast Results

Starting with the most recent forecast, in my June 15th post entitled West Coast Weather July-August 2013, I tried to synthesize a number of different planetary influences over the U.S. West Coast that were culminating on July 1st and 2nd.

I noted that on July 1st, Mercury was going to trigger the Mercury-Venus conjunction. I mentioned how this could excite windy conditions and also draw a warm, moist air mass from the south over the West Coast. The Sun was then to trigger the Uranus-Pluto square of the previous May on July 2nd. This influence was to lower temperatures and bring windy and stormy conditions. Putting it all together, I thought we could see a strong front bringing stormy conditions or a wind event such as Santa Ana winds.

Results

The weather pattern that developed did not follow my synthesis exactly but the main elements were present. For example, on July 1st, Accuweather published the following weather map showing the temperatures experienced in the historic heat wave that was developing. This corresponds to the warm, moist air mass drawn up from the south (although more warm than moist).
01 Heat Wave

On July 2nd, Accuweather then publish the next map with their post entitled "Historic Heat to Ease Temporarily in West." They pointed out how that starting on July 4th a dip in the jet stream would diminish the heat. This corresponds to the Sun-Uranus-Pluto influence that was to bring lower temperatures.
02 Heat Ends

Although the West did not experience a Santa Ana wind event, there were winds to be dealt with. On July 1st, Accuweather also reported "Wind-Whipped Arizona Wildfire Kills 19 Firefighters." The National Weather Service also posted numerous Gale Warnings for Washington, Oregon, California coasts. In addition, the NWS in Oregon warned in a Fire Weather Message on July 2nd "WINDY CONDITIONS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY IN THE COLUMBIA
BASIN WEDNESDAY AND FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY." A similar message was posted on the 3rd for Washington.

June

I made a number of forecasts regarding the developing California water shortage in a two part post. (here and here) I have yet to post the results of Part 1 but have looked at the results of Part 2. The first one is posted here. Now we'll look at the last forecast posted in Part 2. That forecast was for the period of June 7-12. I concluded that with Neptune and the Sun affecting the area off California coast, we should experience a chance of precipitation for the West Coast.

Results

The Weather Channel reported on June 9th that an upper-level low from off the California coast would punch into Nevada triggering scattered thunderstorms. Unfortunately, lightning strikes could potentially start fires.

By the 11th, a low-pressure area entered the Pacific Northwest causing showers and thunderstorms for a couple of days.

Plains Drought Relief Results

Here are some results of the long-range weather forecasts made back on February 10th of this year regarding drought relief for the U.S. Plains states. The results of the first forecasts for the winter season were posted here and here.

Let's look at how the forecasts for the spring of 2013 turned out.

The first forecast call for the possibility of rain around May 13th due to the square of Venus to Neptune. There was a phenomenal surge of heat over the central Plains (also a characteristic of Venus-Neptune) on the 14th but moisture largely bypassed the Southern High Plains.

The next date mentioned for precipitation was the period around May 17th. According to the Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin, a significant tornado outbreak afflicted the Plains between the 17th and 20th. Locally heavy rain hit the Dakotas and Minnesota. Heavy showers accompanied the severe weather outbreak. More than 2 inches of rain hit Oklahoma City, OK, and Chanute, KS on the 20th. Locally heavy rain also extended southward into parts of Texas. The Weather Channel map below is for May 19th.
May 19

The next time period mentioned was around May 26th when the Sun completed its square to Neptune. On May 27th, the Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin reported that Lincoln, NE received 3.32 inches of rain, while Kansas City, MO racked up 2.26. On the 26th, Huron, SD received 1.91 inches. May 28th brought a record-setting 3.77 inches to Fargo, ND, and 2.77 inches to Salina, KS. Marshalltown, Iowa, netted 8.98 inches between May 25-29. The Southern High Plains didn't fare as well as moisture once again bypassed the area.

The last forecast was for the period around June 7th when Mars made its square to Neptune. On the 7th and 8th a storm rolled out of the Rockies into the Plains affecting from South Dakota down to Kansas and over to Iowa. (See the Weather Channel map for the June 8th below) The storms then shifted from the eastern Plains to the Mississippi Valley bringing some 1-inch-or-greater downpours.

Hurricane Season 2013 Part 1

Here are a few areas where tropical systems may strike in the near future. These long-range forecasts are based on planetary cycles.

Retired_Atlantic_hurricane_tracks

July 4-11, 2013
The seven-day period from July 4-11, 2013 may bring some tropical activity due to planetary cycles involving the Sun, Mercury, Saturn, and Uranus. The areas in and around Tampico, Mexico (99 west/22 north) and Acapulco, Mexico (99 west/16 north) are highlighted. There are indications that eastern Texas may also experience severe weather at this time, which may be of a tropical nature. The New England area also stands the chance of experiencing a severe weather pattern, perhaps a tropical system.

August 7-12, 2013
Around this time planetary cycles involving the opposition between Jupiter and Pluto, and the square between Mercury and Saturn are active. The Solar Eclipse of May 9, 2013 will also be triggered now. One of the areas where these influences concentrate is southern Mexico. Tropical moisture or an actual tropical system originating in either the Bay of Campeche or the Gulf of Tehuantepec will affect this southernmost portion of Mexico. Another possible scenario involves a tropical system that travels the length of the U.S. East Coast on its way to the Northeast and New England.

August 21-24, 2013
At this time we're dealing with the square between Jupiter and Uranus which are known for exciting high wind velocities. Sounds like a hurricane. Most of the key charts place this influence, once again, over the Northeast U.S. and New England. This could mean a tropical system or other type of severe weather that brings high velocity winds.

West Coast Weather July - August 2013

In recent posts, I've talked about how important planetary alignments can be triggered later on by aspects of the outer planets Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. There is then a weather reaction over the areas where the original alignments took place. See Mars-Saturn and Jupiter-Neptune.

The Uranus-Pluto square of May 20, 2013, placed special influence over the U.S. Pacific Northwest, California, and eastern Pacific. Here's an astro-locality map showing where these two planets left their mark.

Ur Pl

The original square on May 20th brought showers and thunderstorms to the Pacific Northwest. The storm system stalled and engendered about 5 days of cool and showery weather. When Mercury squared this degree on June 8, there were windy conditions over the forecast area. When Venus hit it on June 12, there were showers and t-storms due to an upper level low. In this post, however, we want to look at triggers from the outer planets, which are more powerful.
Before we do that, another important influence that will be at work over the West Coast states is shown in the key chart for the summer of 2013. A Mercury-Venus conjunction will also fall over this area on June 21st as the summer season begins. The following astro-locality map gives shows the area of influence.

Summer 2013

You can see how the line in this map overlaps the line in the first map over northern California. Now, we'll look at some dates when the outer planets trigger the Uranus-Pluto square while other planets are simultaneously activating the Mercury-Venus conjunction in the second map.

July 1-2, 2013

On the 1st, Mercury will retrograde over the Mercury-Venus conjunction while on the 2nd, the Sun will activate the Uranus-Pluto square. Of course, the Sun is not an "outer planet" but it is an important influence in the study of astrometeorology.

The Sun’s square to Uranus lowers temperatures and excites gusty winds. The Sun’s opposition to Pluto increases storminess. As Mercury retrogrades over the Mercury-Venus conjunction, windy conditions and a warm, moist air mass from the south are indicated. This may play itself out as a clashing of contrary air masses over the Pacific Northwest and northern California. It may manifest in and around these dates as a Santa Ana wind event or as a strong front that brings stormy conditions or wind.

July 30, 2013
Mars will reach the degree of the Uranus-Pluto square adding a more violent touch to the weather as Mars often does. This means there is the potential for severe thunderstorms or a powerful front that brings whipping winds. A tropical system may develop around this date or pass over 122 west longitude and 23 north latitude, which is about 800 miles west of Cabo San Lucas.

August 15-16, 2013

On the 15th, Mars will conjoin the Mercury-Venus line and on the 16th Jupiter will trigger the Uranus-Pluto square. Jupiter's action will most likely result in more increased wind velocities and lower temperatures. Mars' action, however, besides calling for windy conditions, indicates a southerly air flow. Together, they seem to provide the clash necessary to develop a severe weather pattern in the form of a low pressure system or front in and around these dates. The same area in the eastern Pacific (122 west/23 north) should be monitored for tropical activity.

Tropical Storm Andrea Fulfills Long-range Forecast!

The Weather Alternative long-range forecast posted about a month and a half ago is about to be fulfilled by what is now Post Tropical Cyclone Andrea. The forecast was issued on April 24th of this year entitled Ireland Weather June 5-10, 2013. The forecast analyzed a number of planetary cycles culminating during the first 10 days of June over Ireland and surrounding areas, and called for some impressive weather to follow.
Tropical_Storm_Andrea_2013-06-07_1611Z
Accuweather has reported today that the remnants of Andrea will arrive over Ireland starting on the night of the 10th bringing the strongest winds and heaviest rainfall across Ireland. Rain and locally strong winds will then spread across Scotland, Wales, and England on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 11th and 12th).

Results for April 2013 Heat

The Weather Alternative forecast for April 17-22, 2013 spoke of the Sun-Mars conjunction and its effects on weather patterns. One of the areas to be affect by the conjunction was the Newfoundland/Labrador area of Canada. My forecast called for increasing temperatures, which are a key effect of the Sun-Mars combination, to give way to unsettled conditions.

Results for Canada

The Canadian weather office issued a wind warning on April 17th for areas of Newfoundland and Labrador. Potentially damaging winds were expected in these areas due to a low pressure system off the South Labrador Coast that would increase wind gust up to 100 km/h.

full-moon-13456161342DV

Another key area discussed in the long-range forecast was the U.S. West Coast. The Full Moon Chart of March 27th placed the Sun-Mars conjunction over California and the Pacific Northwest. My forecast called for warmer and drier conditions for this section of the country.

Results for U.S. West Coast

On April 17th, the National Weather Service explained in their Area Forecast Discussion for various areas of California that high pressure would build over the Great Basin area producing Santa Ana winds. The result would be warmer weather through April 20th through much of the state.

A number of other key charts indicated that a large portion of the United States would also see a warm up around this time.

Results for the eastern U.S.

At this time the Weather Channel reported the winter storm Yogi would affect the Plains and Midwest with severe storms and snow (see map below) and then shift its influence to the East Coast. More importantly, however, on April 17th, Accuweather posted an article entitled "Warm-Up Brings Allergy Woes to Northeast." They mentioned that consistent warmth was expected through that week.

Results for California Water Shortage May 20, 2013 Forecast

In a recent April post, I added a couple of dates to the forecasts regarding the California Water Shortage. The first date I mentioned was the time in and around May 20, 2013. This period was supposed to be important due to the Uranus-Pluto square that fell over the West Coast states.

The idea was that this planetary alignment should coincide with a strong cold front or low pressure area bringing windy conditions and some precipitation. The National Weather Service map below is for May 21st. The Weather Channel reported that a storm system brought showers and thunderstorms to Washington, Oregon, and north Idaho. The storm system then stalled keeping the Northwest showery and cool for the next few days with some snow in the higher elevations but no precipitation for California.

May 21

In an upcoming post, we'll look at when this planetary alignment will be triggered in the future and what it might mean for the West Coast area.

Forecast Results: Jupiter-Neptune and Heavy Rain

I posted some long-range weather forecast back in July of 2012 based on the Jupiter-Neptune square of June 25, 2012. I focused on two places that were affected by the alignment. The first was in the Philippines. There, Neptune affected the line of longitude passing directly through the islands while Jupiter was setting as shown in the map below. Phil

The very next day, Tropical Depression Doksuri formed just east of the Philippines affecting the islands on its way toward Hong Kong.

I listed some dates when this crossing would be activated. I expected heavy rain at those times. Here are the results.

August 25, 2012
The Weather Channel reported on August 26th that Typhoon Bolaven was churning in the Philippine Sea with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph.

September 2, 2012
Nothing reported.

October 5, 2012
Tropical Storm Gaemi was located just west of the Philippines destined for Vietnam with heavy rainfall and inland flooding for the Indochina Peninsula.

October 11, 2012
Typhoon Prapiroon developed on the 5th and by the 7th it had entered what is called the Philippine Area of Responsibility, which is essentially the area in and around the Philippines. In this case Prapiroon was in the Pacific Ocean just east of the Philippines.

November 2, 2012
Nothing reported.

November 10, 2012
Tropical Depression 25W moved over the Philippines on November 11th and then entered the South China Sea.

November 24, 2012
Typhoon Bopha formed on the 23rd but very far east of the Philippines. By December 2nd it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility and was renamed Pablo. It hit the Philippines on December 3rd--too far removed, however, from the forecast date to be counted as a hit.

New England and Eastern Canada

The original forecast also mentioned another crossing related to Jupiter-Neptune. This was over eastern Canada as shown in the map below.
Newfoundland

The day after the Jupiter-Neptune square, heavy rain causing localized flooding hit New England and eastern Canada.

August 25, 2012
On the 26th, northern New England received about an inch of rain.

September 2, 2012
On the 3rd, southern Maine received about from 1 to 3 inches of rain. On the 4th, parts of New England saw rainfall of 1 inch or greater.

October 5, 2012
On the 4th, New England registered between 0.25 to 1 inch of rain.

October 11, 2012
Nothing reported.

November 2, 2012
By the 1st, Hurricane Sandy's remnants were leaving the Northeast and New England.

November 10, 2012
On the 12th, a strong cold front swept off the coast with rain and showers.

November 24, 2012
On the 23rd, rain, snow, and windy conditions over New England.

Ireland Weather June 5-10, 2013

A number of planetary cycles culminate between the 5th and 10th of June and promise a severe weather pattern for Ireland. These cycles include 1) Neptune's retrograde station, 2) Mars' square to Neptune, 3)Mercury's opposition to Pluto, and 4) Mars' activation of the most recent lunar eclipse of May 24th. The astro-locality map below shows how a number of planetary positions affect the Emerald Isle.

Ireland

Let's see how each of these cycles has operated in the recent past to get an idea of what might happen to weather conditions over Ireland and the surrounding area.

1- Neptune's Retrograde Station
Last year, Neptune's station took place on June 4th over 101 west longitude which runs through the U.S. Plains states and Texas. By the 6th, meteorologists were warning of severe weather to break out of the eastern Rockies and the Plains bringing large hail and wind damage. The High Plains took a pounding from multiple rounds of severe thunderstorms. A repeat performance was offered on the 7th and 8th with torrential downpours, large hail, and locally damaging wind gusts.

2- The Mars-Neptune Square
The combination of Mars and Neptune usually result in freak weather changes due to rising temperatures, increasing humidity, and low pressure areas. Last year, the Mars-Neptune square of October 7, 2012 was placed along 71 west longitude passing through New England and the Bahamas. At that time, an upper level disturbance and a developing storm offshore brought rain to the eastern Mid-Atlantic through New England. A tropical cyclone attempted to form near the Bahamas as well.

3- The Mercury-Pluto Opposition
The last Mercury-Pluto opposition was on June 12, 2012. The Full Moon chart placed the two planets over the U.S. Northeast. On the 12th, drenching downpours shifted into the Northeast due to a surge of tropical moisture creating urban and small stream flooding.

4- Mars Activating Lunar Eclipse
The lunar eclipse of June 15, 2011 was activated by the opposition of Mars on July 25 of the same year. The eclipse was overhead at 123 west longitude which runs along the U.S. Pacific Northwest coast. At that time, an upper level low brought showers and storms to the Northwest.

Conclusion
A number of these planetary alignments brought some impressive weather conditions. The potential seems to be there for a similar response over Ireland and surrounding areas.

Revisiting the Mars-Saturn Conjunction of August 2012

In July of 2012, I posted a number of forecasts regarding the Mars-Saturn conjunction of August 15, 2012. I then posted the results of the initial forecast to see how it came out. In that first forecast, I also included upcoming dates when the conjunction would be triggered. As I look back at these now, I see that the triggers to the conjunction passed without much fanfare with regards to the weather. I noticed that all of the planets triggering Mars-Saturn were from the faster moving inner planets. It's a different story when the outer planets (Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto) trigger these conjunctions. I've posted about these outer planet triggers before regarding Typhoon Ma-On that hit Japan in July of 2011.

When we look at what happened when Mars triggered the conjunction degree later on, things are quite different. For example, On December 19, 2012, Mars squared this degree. As you recall, the Mars-Saturn conjunction affected the Plains running through 100 west longitude. US

On the 19th, a powerful winter storm gathered strength over Wyoming and Colorado and spread blizzard conditions across the Plains and the Midwest delivering snow and gusty winds. The map below is for the 20th as it moves eastward.

Dec 20

Just recently, Mars triggered the conjunction again, along with the Sun as they both opposed the Mars-Saturn conjunction degree. On the 13th, winter storm Xerxes (as it's called by the Weather Channel) brought heavy snow to the northern Plains states. Then another band of significant precipitation reached Wyoming and Colorado leaving about 6 inches of snow across the higher elevations of the latter. Gusty winds hit the area as well. By the 16th, the winter storm, now dubbed "Yogi," was now affecting Nebraska, South Dakota, and Kansas with 1 to 12 inches of snow. The storm even dipped down into Oklahoma and West Texas. Damaging wind gusts, large hail, and tornadoes were also part of its legacy.

In upcoming posts we'll work with this method and see how these outer planet triggers will affect the Uranus-Pluto square that will form this May.

California Water Shortage Part 2

In the first California Water Shortage post, I gave some dates during the spring season when the state might get some rain and some other dates that showed dry periods. In this post, I'll talk about some other major planetary cycles that will affect California and the West Coast and thus add some other influences not mentioned in the first post.

May 20, 2013 - Uranus square Pluto

The first event that needs to be added to the calendar is the Uranus-Pluto square on May 20th. The astro-locality map below shows that this aspect falls over the U.S. West Coast.

Uranus Pluto

Since the square represents atmospheric disturbances, and Uranus signifies cold air masses with erratic winds, in stands to reason that the West Coast states could experience a strong cold front or low pressure area in and around this time that brings windy conditions and possibly some precipitation to the area.

June 7, 2013 - Neptune's Retrograde Station

The next important event is Neptune's retrograde station. One of Neptune's characteristic influences is to increase moisture. Notice from the astro-locality map below, Neptune makes a crossing with the Sun off the U.S. West Coast.

Neptune Rx

This means that moisture should be funneled up over the area in the days following. The original forecast in the first post for June 7-8 was as follows:

Mercury makes some important aspects to Uranus and Pluto. This may bring an anomalous weather pattern to the Pacific Northwest and California. It may mean stormy or windy conditions or perhaps extremes of cold before and after these dates.

Now, with the added information regarding Neptune's retrograde station at this time, an increase in moisture resulting in more of a chance of precipitation is indicated along with the above forecast. It would be wise to also extend the time period mentioned to include June 7-12 as well.

April 2013 Heat

The next Sun-Mars conjunction will take place on April 17, 2013. When Mars is configured with the Sun the temperature rises. This aspect takes place about every two years.

The last conjunction was on February 4, 2011. The chart for that winter season placed the conjoined planets just off the U.S. West Coast. The Weather Channel reported on February 5th that temperatures would be 5 to 10 degrees above average across the Great Basin and the West Coast. Meteorologists also pointed out that the warmer air was thawing out the Rockies as temperatures increased.

April 17-21, 2013

The key chart for the 2013 spring season places the Sun-Mars conjunction over Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. Increasing temperatures over this area may give way to unsettled conditions which sometimes occur with Sun-Mars conjunctions.

Another key chart, the Full Moon chart of March 27th, places the Sun-Mars conjunction over California and the Pacific Northwest. As mentioned in a previous post about the California Water Shortage, this should bring warmer and drier conditions to the area.

Still other key charts show the Sun-Mars conjunction affecting a large portion of the United States. We may see a general warm up spreading across the country during the days following the April 17th conjunction.

March 27-31, 2013 Forecast Results

In a recent forecast for the Northeast and New England, I expected these areas to experience winter storm conditions between the 27th and 30th as a result of the conjunctions between the Sun, Venus, and Uranus. On the 27th, the New England area experienced 1 to 3 inches of snow in the lower elevations and as much as 6 inches in the mountains of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. The Northeast was unaffected except for some snow flurries in western New York.

The main action was taking place further east in portions of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada. Warnings for snow, strong winds, and blowing snow were posted for these areas on the 28th and 29th due to an intense low pressure system that had become stationary over the North Atlantic. This corresponds to the positions of the Sun, Venus, and Uranus in the Full Moon chart of March 27th. I had not taken these into account in my original forecast.

Similar conditions were expected over Alaska between these dates. On the 28th, a low pressure system moving through the Central Gulf of Alaska brought snow showers and strong winds to portions of Southern Alaska.

In another forecast concerned with the possible California water shortage, I mentioned that a storm system would affect southern California in and around March 31st.

The Weather Channel reported today (31st) that rain showers and mountain snows are increasing for northern and central California and the Great Basin as an upper-level low moves in from the Pacific. Their weather map below shows the area affected.
