Potential Hurricane Strike: Sept 19-22, 2013

An interesting pair of planetary alignments takes place on September 19th and 20th. We have a Mercury-Jupiter square on the 19th while Pluto will make its direct station on the 20th. A number of important charts show these two celestial events interacting geographically over the same area.

Adverse aspects involving Mercury can be indicative of increased wind velocities, and Pluto's direct station has been seen to coincide with clashing atmospheric conditions. This may be interpreted as a potential tropical system since we are in hurricane season. At the same time, it could result in some other form of severe weather over the area we will discuss.

The First Quarter Moon of September 12th sets the stage by creating a crossing of planetary lines around 63 west longitude and 33 north latitude in the western Atlantic. This lies about 800 miles south of Nova Scotia as shown in the astro-locality map below.

FQ Sept

This will be triggered around the 18th and 19th and could indicate a storm center there. Then, at the time that Mercury squares Jupiter, and Pluto turns direct in motion, the Solar Ingress map for the summer season shows Mercury and Pluto interacting together over Nova Scotia as seen in the map below.

Mercury Pluto

This implies that the possible storm system shown in the First Quarter map will be drawn farther northward toward the Nova Scotia coast. The Full Moon chart of September 19th also places Pluto over area of Nova Scotia and eastern Maine. The Moon also will make hard aspects to Mercury, Jupiter, and Pluto on the 20th. The Moon's action serves to intensify weather systems and to localize them over the area in question. The New Moon chart of September 5th also adds to this by having the Sun and Moon angular over New England at the time of Full Moon.

From these charts it appears that a tropical system could affect the New England and Nova Scotia areas at this time or at least bring some type of severe weather such as severe thunderstorms.

August 21-24, 2013 Forecast Results

The forecast for this period was posted two months earlier. Due to the Jupiter-Uranus square affecting the U.S. Northeast and New England, I was expecting either a tropical system or some other type of severe weather that would excite wind velocities. Here's what happened.

The Accuweather map below is for August 22nd.

22 Pittsburg

Here we see the Northeast and New England experiencing heavy rain due to a cold front. Accuweather reported that on the 22nd heavy, gusty storms returned to the Northeast. A number of locations were to experience brief powerful wind gusts, blinding downpours, and travel delays. There were also concerns power outages and flash flooding. The severe weather affected cities such as Pittsburg, Buffalo, Philadelphia, New York City, Albany, and Burlington, Vt.

July and August 2013 Forecast Results

Here are the results of some forecasts made in June of this year. The first forecast was for August 7-12, 2013. The forecast expected some kind of tropical moisture or tropical system to affect southern Mexico. The second part of the forecast expected a tropical system to travel the length of the U.S. East Coast on its way toward the Northeast and New England.

Results

No tropical system was reported over southern Mexico at this time. As for the U.S. East Coast there was not a tropical system but heavy rain did affect the area. On August 9th, 3.79 inches of rain fell in Hartford, CT, and 2.53 inches fell in Georgetown, DE.

The following Accuweather map shows the area to be affected by flooding downpours and damaging winds on August 13th, just a day after the forecast period ended.
11 Boston, NYC

Forecast

Another forecast issued in June was for the period between August 15-16, 2013. This forecast expected a clashing of air masses over the West Coast states due to a low pressure area or front, as well as a possible tropical system in the Eastern Pacific.

Results

No tropical system developed in the Eastern Pacific at this time. The Weather Channel map below for August 15th does show a front affecting the West Coast states. There was no major clashing of air masses. The region experienced hot temperatures and isolated thunderstorms.

July 30, 2013 Forecast Results and Hurricane Gil

The Uranus-Pluto square of May 20, 2013 was the subject of a long-range weather forecast I posted back in mid-June. The planetary alignment took place over the U.S. West Coast states. The forecast explained how Mars would reach the degree of the Uranus-Pluto square on July 30th. The resultant weather was to be violent in nature such as severe thunderstorms or whipping winds. Tropical development was also forecast for the area around 122 west longitude and 23 north latitude.

lightning-2

Results
On July 29th, the National Weather Service reported that a low pressure system would approach the West Coast bringing dry conditions and periods of gusty winds. On the 30th, fire weather warnings were posted for the Pacific Northwest because of abundant lightning generated by the aforementioned upper level low pressure system. All this was very befitting of the violent weather nature associated with the planet Mars.

Hurricane Gil

318-800

On July 31st, Hurricane Gil was located at 121 west longitude and 14 north latitude. Gil was passing over the longitude mentioned in the forecast (122 west) but was passing much further south than I had forecast. Not my best call, but not too bad.
